National

During
my first 2-3 years of training I listened to
everything that my instructor told me except for two things.
First
he told me that if I want to become the absolute best
I can be in jiu jitsu and compete effectively on the highest level that
I would
have to start to eat correctly.
I
laughed at this, what on earth was he talking about?
I
was a 19 year old kid who loved McDonalds
just like the next teenager. I love
cheese fries, milk shakes, chili burgers, if you name it, I love it. He’s
not the type to push his position to
hard on me, he just lets me know what I need to do to reach my highest
potential and he basically lets me make the decision to either listen
or not.
He
also told me that I need to start doing a better warm up
before I compete. I basically put
my gi
on and walk on the mat to compete. I
still haven’t changed that yet. LOL
Well
I was following his Grappling Blueprint and Grappling
Game Plan to the best of my ability. I
did everything that he told me when it came to going after sponsorship
money
which was the main reason I was able to travel all across the Country
competing
in every event possible without spending a dime.
But
as my matches starting getting tougher I was looking for
any edge that I could get. Then
something happened that forced me to make a change.
I
was doing a conditioning workout with my team mates.
I’m
not trying to brag but I was always in
the top three during the workouts. This
one day I’ll never forget. Our
instructor took our workout from a level 1 to a level 10.
Everyone
was really excited until 4 minutes
into the workout I started to feel like crap!
Mike
Easton was laughing saying “What’s wrong Mike, you
can’t hang?” I
never get this tired this
quick, NEVER. My instructor
started
laughing and said “I bet you’re still eating that
crap Fowler, you’re never
going to make it during the next 6 week phase of training unless you
start to
eat correctly” He then said
that
if
this happens to me in Brazil during a match that I’m going to
get my butt kicked.”
That’s
all I needed to hear. Today was the day
that I was going to make a change. After
the workout I sat down with him to find
out exactly what I needed to do.
I
figured that it couldn’t hurt any, so why not give it a
try?
He
pulled out all of this material that he had written down
and told me to read it all. He had
already spent a great deal of money researching proper nutrition. He
said that
I need to learn as much about proper nutrition as possible. This
way I could know how to fuel my body
properly and be able to run on a full tank of gas

COMPLETE IDIOT!!!
After
changing the way I was eating I couldn’t believe how
much better I felt when training and competing. It
was like I had
the special secret to success that no one was ever
talking about.
No
more having to cut weight the dangerous way. Knowing

competition and exactly what foods are good and what foods are bad. Some
of them even came as a shock. The great
thing
about it is that it wasn’t
like having to do a diet. I
